The position to be filled requires doctoral-level training and relevant professional experience to ensure that the candidate to be hired, a Science Communicator equivalent to an Assistant Researcher, can handle the coordination, organization and operation of the ARNET Associated Laboratory's Communications Office.

The candidate will be responsible for ensuring professional and properly decoded interfaces with ARNET's various target audiences, ensuring opportunities, formats and fluid forms of interaction with society. They will also be expected to promote interdisciplinary work on ARNET's themes, integrate it into ongoing research projects and contribute to preparing future projects.

The activities to be carried out focus on the strategic organization, dissemination and communication of science, namely the implementation of ARNET's Communication Office, including:

1.            Definition and updating of the Laboratory's Communication Plan (including what is being disseminated, with what objectives and in relation to what kind of events / policies / ..., formats and types of language, institutions, levels of intervention, ... ); this is an operational tool document, of key technical and tactical importance, detailing the implementation of ARNET's communication strategy in the form of specific activities, content to be developed, channels used, timetable, resources (human, goods and materials, and budget) required for its implementation, as well as the respective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and metrics;

2.            Operationalization of the Laboratory's Communication Plan, harmonizing it coherently with the activity of its various Institutional Hubs, Research Groups and Thematic Lines;

3.            Translation and transfer of scientific findings to improve the conservation of aquatic resources and their sustainable use;

7.            Contributing to the coordination, organization and dissemination of the Laboratory's Advanced Training initiatives, at postgraduate and professional level;

8.            Disseminating and publicizing the knowledge generated by ARNET's scientific activity, in liaison with its researchers and ARNET's management, through the production and/or validation of content resulting from the activity, geared towards marketing or society and the general public;

10.          Proactive coordination with science communication activities in related fields that may exist at FCiências.ID and at the LA's member institutions;

11.          Training new science communication professionals.

The Science Communicator should participate in external funding opportunities, taking part in the preparation of national and international applications for public or private funding lines, with a special focus on LA ARNET's Thematic Line 5 - Governance, Citizen Science and Ocean Literacy. He will also collaborate with the ARNET unit coordinator and the coordinators of the thematic lines, helping to set up dissemination networks and thematic meetings, promoting and communicating LA ARNET's image, liaising with the partner R&D units to ensure that procedures and strategies are aligned.

These responsibilities will be reflected in other aspects of the future annual individual performance appraisal, which must be taken on by the candidate to be hired in the field of Marine Sciences, in the form of proposals to the ARNET coordinator, who is responsible for approving them, financing them and creating the conditions for their implementation, with their direct involvement.

This position is in line with the ARNET Associated Laboratory's strategy of rejuvenating scientific institutions by attracting young, high-quality PhD researchers, thereby strengthening the operating contexts of R&D activity and scientific institutions (LA ARNET and its management institutions) with skills (particularly science communication) without which the link with society and the sustainability of the institutions are weakened.
