Offer Description
The NOVA Institute of Philosophy is seeking to recruit one Post-Doctoral Fellow within the scope of the project CORES – Communicative Paths to Righting Epistemic Wrongs, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia – FCT (project reference 2023.14900.PEX), in accordance with the following terms.
Work plan: The fellow will be integrated into the project team and will contribute, alongside and in collaboration with the PI and the CORES team, to the exploration of the distinctively communicative dynamics that help bring about, sustain and amplify epistemic harms, injuries, and injustices. More broadly, they will actively contribute to the development and achievement of the project’s scientific and dissemination aims. This will include, specifically:
- Conducting a review of discussions within social and political epistemology, social philosophy of language and political philosophy, identified as relevant to the project’s research questions and objectives. The results of this bridge-building task will be showcased in one or two survey articles as well as a literature review report, which the post-doctoral fellow will help prepare and co-author.
- Exploring, and laying the groundwork for future investigation of, communicative pathways to ameliorate and repair epistemic wrongs, by drawing on the conceptual-analytical resources of the above-mentioned literature strands.
- Contributing, together with the PI and the other team members, to the production of the project's outputs (reports, scientific publications, etc.).
- Collaborating in the day-to-day management of the project, in both its scientific and administrative dimensions.
- Presenting the results of the research developed during the fellowship at national and international academic events (conferences, seminars, etc).
The fellow’s research activities will be carried out under the scientific supervision of the principal investigator, Dr Giulia Terzian.
Duration of the grant: The grant will last for 11 months, and is expected to start in September 2025.
Form of submission of applications: Applications and supporting documents must be submitted by email to ifilnova@fcsh.unl.pt, with the subject line CORES_BIPD.
In their application email, candidates must include the following documents:
1. Curriculum vitae;
2. Certificates of academic degrees and qualifications;
2.1. In the case of academic degrees obtained at foreign higher education institutions, candidates must present the recognition of said degrees (minimally: the candidate’s PhD degree), in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16. In the absence of this recognition certificate at the time of application, candidates must submit, under penalty of exclusion from the call, a signed declaration of honour stating that this recognition will be obtained before the start of the contract, in the event of their being selected for the post. It is mandatory to present the recognition certificate before the start of the contract.
3. Statement of interest (2 pages max), written in English, articulating how the candidate intends to develop her/his/their research activities within the scope of the project;
4. One (1) relevant publication;
5. Declaration of honor stating that, with the signing of the current fellowship contract, the candidate will not exceed a cumulative period of three years in this type of fellowship, whether consecutive or non-consecutive, and that they have not previously been a beneficiary of any other research fellowship at NOVA FCSH.
Each candidate may submit only one application.
If candidates make false declarations or commit acts of plagiarism, their application will be cancelled, without prejudice to the adoption of other sanctioning measures.
