1 Research Grant M/F

Call open for applications for a research grant within the framework of project rePLANtImplantaçãodeestratégiascolaborativasparaagestãointegradadaflorestaedofogo, with the reference POCI-01-0247-FEDER-046081, co‐financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization (COMPETE 2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Perception for forests using GPR

Admission requirements: Candidates who cumulatively meet the following two requirements may apply for this grant:

Requirement 1:

- Be a student enrolled in an master's degree or integrated master's who have already completed the 180 credits corresponding to the first six curricular semesters, in the area of  Computer Science/Informatics Engineering, Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or related area a requirement to be duly proven at the time of signing the contract.

or

- To be enrolled in a non-academic degree course integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, requirement to be duly proven at the time of signing the contract.

Note: In the case of bachelors who are enrolled in non-academic degree courses, the scholarship can only be awarded to those who do not exceed, with this scholarship contract, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of two years in that typology of the scholarship, followed or interpolated.

And

Requirement 2:

- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or related area.

If the qualification has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the time of hiring.

 

Work Plan: 

As part of the rePLANt project, the fellow will have to lay out the foundations leading to the development of a perception system based in the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), namely:

  1. Get to know FEUP’s previous work in the area
  2. Re-engineer the perception pipeline
  3. Testing of the solution developed
  4. Report findings in scientific format

Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, in force (https://www.fct.pt/financiamento/programas-de-financiamento/bolsas/ ) and Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto.

Work place: The work will be developed at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), under the scientific supervision of Professor Armando Sousa.

Grant duration and exclusivity: The grant will last until 30/06/2023, with the predicted starting date in March 2023, on an exclusive basis eventually renewable but never exceeding the end of the project.

If the recruitment procedures do not allow the grant to last for a minimum of 3 consecutive months, in accordance with paragraph 3 of article 6 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. , the scholarship will not be awarded.

The eventual renewal of the scholarship will be carried out as determined in article 6 of the Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

Stipend: The grant stipend amounts to 930,98 €, according to the table of values of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the Country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). 

The payment will be made by bank transfer.

 

 

Selection methodology:

Interview and Curriculum Evaluation, which will focus on the candidate's merits, in which the following factors will be considered, with the indicated weights, and in which all criteria will be evaluated by the jury on a scale of 0-10:

F1: Academic training - 30%

    F1a) Bachelor’s Degree Area - 50% (Bachelor’s degree in Electrotechnical Engineering – 10 points, Bachelor’s degree in related field – 5 points)

   F1b) Final BSc Degree average grade (Bachelor’s degree) and Classifications in the Master and/or PhD - 50%

F2: Scientific Publications in Indexed Journals and Conferences - 10%

F3: Previous experience in research work - 10%

F4: Motivation Letter - 10%

The candidate's curricular assessment (CA) classification will be obtained by the formula

CA = 0.3*F1 + 0.1*F2 + 0.1*F3 + 0.1*F4, where: F1 = 0.5*F1a + 0.5*F1b.

Scholarships will only be awarded if the selected candidates obtain a final evaluation equal to or greater than 7 values (scale 0-10).

Interview – 40

Final Grade is CA + Interview.
