Offer Description
The CISTER Research Unit hosted at the School of Engineering of Porto (ISEP), is opening 1 scholarship research position, in the context of the research project FLOYD (Refª: POCI-01-0247-FEDER-045912), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program (POCI, COMPETE 2020), and by national funds through the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, I.P.), within the framework of the CMU Portugal Program.
SCIENTIFIC AREA
Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields.

To be eligible, the applicants must meet the following criteria:
• have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Informatics Engineering;
• be enrolled, or meet the necessary conditions to enroll, in one of the following courses: Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MEEC) of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) or of the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP), or in the Master in Informatics Engineering (MEI) of ISEP, or in the Master in Informatics Engineering and Computing (MEIC) of FEUP, or in the Master in Critical Computing Systems Engineering (MESCC) do ISEP (registration status to be demonstrated in the contractualization stage).

GRANT DURATION
The position is of 3 months, to start in April 2023, and may be renewed for equal periods up to the limit of 24 months, or until the end of the project.
WORK PLAN
Research activities related to the area of Embedded and Real Time Computational Systems, particularly in the areas of i) autonomous vehicle systems, ii) wireless communication systems (including 5G), and iii) vehicular applications.
LEGISLATION
Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law no. 40/2004, of 18 August; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, approved by Regulation no. 950/2019, published in Series II - Part C, of the Diário da República, of December 16, 2019, Regulation of ISEP Research Grants, Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in Diário da República no. 157/2018, Series I of 16 August, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions and Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of 3 August, which streamlines the administrative procedures necessary for the pursuit of research and development activities, all in their current wording.
WORKPLACE AND SCIENTIFIC SUPERVISION
The work is to be carried out at the facilities of the CISTER Labs (https://www.cister-labs.pt), a research unit
hosted at the School of Engineering of Porto (ISEP), under the coordination of Dr. Pedro Santos.
MONTHLY STIPEND: €930.98, paid by Wire Transfer (stipend in accordance with the FCT regulation: http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt), supported through PAD nr. C57998. According to what is stated in the regulations, and only applicable to exceptional cases and on terms to be defined, an additional amount may be paid.
SELECTION, EVALUATION CRITERIA
The evaluation will focus and consider the following components:
• Component A (40%): experience and skills in the area
o Subcomponent A.1 (20%) – Bachelor's final classification
o Subcomponent A.2(20%) – experience and specific skills in the topics defined in the work plan.
• Component B (20%): motivation letter
• Component C (40%): interview
o Subcomponent D.1 (35%) – Demonstration of maturity in the area
o Subcomponent D.2 (5%) – Communication skills, including fluency in English
Candidates may be excluded from the competition on the following grounds:
• For failing to meet admission requirements.
• For scoring less than 10 (out of 20) in the assessment subcomponent A.1,
• For scoring less than 9.5 (out of 20) in any of the components (A, B, C, D) of the assessment.
SELECTION JURY
The Selection Jury will be composed by PhD members of the Research Unit, as follows:
- Prof. Eduardo Tovar (Project PI) (Chair),
- Pedro Santos (Effective Juror),
- David Pereira (Effective Juror),
- Prof. Filipe Pacheco (Substitute Juror).
APPLICATION PROCEDURE

- Certificate of Qualifications / Document proving the holder of the academic degree and diploma, and the respective recognition when it has been awarded by foreign higher education institutions or document proving the request for recognition,
- Proof of enrollment in the MSc Program (optional for the application),
- Motivation letter (3 pages max.),
In this call, the academic bachelor’s degree is relevant for the evaluation of the candidate and, therefore, it is necessary that the recognition indicated above is provided at the time of application for the academic degree to be considered for evaluation purposes. If the candidate with a foreign degree does not present proof of the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese classification scale, he/she will be evaluated with the minimum classification (10 points out of 20) in the applicable criterion.
If the qualification has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law N. 66/2018, of 16 August, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled until the contract is signed.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: Applications must be submitted between 20th and 31st March 2023.
NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS: The results of the assessment are communicated via e-mail to the e-mail address used by the applicant.
PROCEDURE FOR APPEAL: After the communication of the provisional list of the results of the assessment, applicants have a period of 10 working days to request a hearing of interested parties, should they so desire, following the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA). The final decision will be announced after the analysis of all deliberations proffered at the above-mentioned hearing of interested parties. The applicant has 15 working days to appeal against the final decision to the President of ISEP.
RESERVE LIST: CISTER/ISEP reserves the right to consider the non-selected applicants, always according to the final ranking list, for hiring a fellow for the same project in case the initially selected applicant abdicates from the position.
