Offer Description
LIP opens a call for selection of fellows for one Research Student Fellowships (BI – Master) for participation in the project CERN/FIS-PAR/0032/2021, “Bridging Theory and Experiment: Collider Phenomenology (II)”, funded by FCT/MCTES with national funds through the State Budget (OE).
Work plan:
The work plan will be carried out in the context of the activities of the Phenomenology group at LIP, in particular, in the study of jets initiated by quarks and gluons with application to the high-energy hadronic collisions produced at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Switzerland) and RHIC (Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider, USA). The selected candidate will develop a new phenomenological analysis to isolate the substructure within the jet that is dominated by partonic development. The objective will be to be able to use this new proposal as a possible identifier of jets whose development may be dominated by non-perturbative physics, thus determining the energy scale at which this transition occurs. The work will be developed under the supervision of Doutora Liliana Apolinário.
How to Apply
Applicants should submit: a motivation letter and a curriculum vitae (both in English), Master’s certificate and a including the list of classifications obtained in the different curricular units, and other relevant documents, as a PDF file, by email to ofelia@lip.pt and natalia@lip.pt
Legislation:
The fellowship contract will be established according to the “Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology” (https://files.dre.pt/2s/2019/12/241000000/0009100105.pdf) and to the Status of Scientific Research Fellow (Law nº 40/2004, August 18th, and its successive amendments).
Duration: The fellowship has a duration of 6 months, with a foreseen starting date on May, 2023. The fellowship may eventually be renewed, until the maximum foreseen in the project and according to the terms of the FCT regulations.
